So what constitutes a recession?

I have heard the term recession tossed around lately. . .so what is a recession?

Per Wikipedia (Click link for more analysis):
"In macroeconomics, a recession is a decline in a country's real gross domestic product (GDP), or negative real economic growth, for four or more successive quarters of a year."
